About Pol Roger Champagne

Pol Roger is a renowned Champagne house in Epernay, Northern France. The company is still owned and operated by the descendants of Pol Roger. It produces 110,000 cases of Champagne annually.

The history behind Pol Roger Champagne

Pol Roger has a flattering 160 years of history as one of the leading Champagne brands in the world. Pol Roger made the first sale of wine from the house in 1849. He was forced into selling wine and Champagne at a very young age because his father contracted a disease, and he could no longer carry on with his business.

He sold Champagne in 1855 and was receiving plenty of recognition for this type of Champagne, which the English preferred, and he died in the year 1899. His sons helped expand the business even after surviving a cellar disaster in 1900. About 2 million bottles were destroyed during this period.

Maurice Pol Roger was the mayor who made the brand famous, especially in the UK. The company was passed down to his son Jacques after his death. And then, the fourth generation of the family took over the company by Christian Pol Roger in 1964.

The company kept surviving even during the prohibition in the United States, the Russian Revolution, and both the World Wars. Then, in 1946, the admiration of Winston Churchill for the vintage Champagne produced by Pol Roger gave him wide recognition in Britain.

They launched the vintage Rose and the celebrated Cuvee Winston Churchill vintage collection in 1975.

For the first time, the company first hired an outside chairperson, Patrick Noyelle, in 1990. Laurent succeeded him in 2013. The son of Christian Paul Roger, Hubert de Billy is still the director of sales and marketing and a board member of the company.

The company slowly expanded its exports to Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Australia in the 2000s. Then, it started buying vineyards and renovated its winery, where the cellar master, Dominique Petit, took care of curating the best wines and Champagnes with consistency and quality.

Why is Pol Roger Champagne So Popular?

Pol Roger is one of the finest Champagne houses globally, which produce both non-vintage and vintage Champagnes. It is the favorite Champagne of Sir Winston Churchill, and the company still owns a royal warrant to Queen Elizabeth II. In addition, the brand is well-loved by wine critics because of the longevity of its vintage wines.
