The company was founded in Reims in 1776 by Dubois PèreetFils. Louis Roederer joined the company in 1827 and inherited it from his uncle in 1833, renaming it Louis Roederer. In 1876 they created Cristal, the first Prestige Cuvée for Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Madame Camille Olry-Roederer saved the champagne brand in 1932 and ran it until she passed away in 1974. Her grandson Jean-Claude Rouzaud took over from her and brought the company to greater heights.
