The history behind Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky
Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky had always wanted to make authentic Whisky. As such, he went to Scotland in 1918 and became the first Japanese person who knew how to distill Whisky. He returned to Japan in 1920 and was hired by Kotobukiya Limited in 1923 to start the production of Whisky in the Yamazaki Distillery. In 1934 he decided to go independent and started his distillery in Hokkaido. The first Nikka Whisky was launched in 1940, and the company has made a name for itself since.
