About Calle 23 Tequila

Calle 23 Tequila company is the brainchild of Sophie Decobecq, a French-born biochemist. She learned the art of fermentation and visited Tequila distilleries before establishing her own brand by creating some of the finest tequilas in the world. The brand was established in 2009 and has won several gold medals for its spirits. They have recently moved the company to Tequila Quiote, Los Altos Highlands.

The history behind Calle 23 Tequila

Calle 23, the name of the brand, was coined by the founder when she perfected her first batch of new tequila and saw a sign on the street. Calle refers to ‘street’ in the Spanish language.

Sophie is the female Tequila brand owner and also the master distiller of the company. She moved to Mexico in 2003 after she fell in love with agave plantations. It was during this year she established her own company, IMEX International.

Calle 23 Tequila starts with the careful selection of blue agave, which is sourced from Los Altos, Highlands of Jalisco. They choose agave, which has matured between 7 to 9 years for best quality. Then, skilled workers, called Jimadors, carry the harvesting process out, who have an intuitive quality to take only the heart of the matured agave plants.

They place the harvested agave hearts in stainless steel ovens and roast them for 15 hours. Natural juices from the cooked agave are fermented to get the spirit which is distilled in pot stills with copper steamer. The distilled tequila is mixed with spring water and aged for months before bottling.

The company’s slogan is ‘Tequila makes us smarter, so drink smart.’ Having moved their company to a new distillery called Tequila Quiote, the brand focuses on setting up the original distillery and maintaining consistency with their tequila bottles.

Why is Calle 23 Tequila So Popular?

Calle 23 Tequila is one of the finest tequilas made in Mexico. In addition, it is relatively cheaper than other tequilas made in the Highlands of Jalisco. A professional biochemist who has intense knowledge in fermentation and creates specific yeasts for developing a wonderful flavor profile for their drinks runs the company. Her creativity sparks plenty of popularity amongst alcohol lovers.
