About Black Cow Vodka

The History behind Black Cow Vodka
Black cow vodka started in the West Dorset Dairy farm. The process of making vodka from pure milk products started as an inspiration from the ancient Mongolian tradition of making alcohol from milk. The ruler of the Mongol dynasty Genghis Khan enjoyed an alcoholic form of fermented milk drink called “Araka” which was more like a beer than vodka.
In a 300-years-old dairy farm, they made cheese with the milk of their dairy cows. The whey, a product of the cheese-making process, was becoming a waste. Jason barber decided to make vodka using whey water by blending the traditional alcohol made from the Mongolian culture and the northern European culture.
They used a triple filtration and distillation process using a specific yeast that reacts with lactose and sugars to convert to alcohol. The distilled pure spirit from the whey water had 48 % ABV which was later filtered using carbon made from coconut husk to reduce the final concentration to 40 % ABV.
Jason barber along with Paul Richard created a clean and smooth vodka after 5 years of experimentation and launched the company in 2012. Even after plenty of controversies and struggles, black cow remains to be the only Vodka brand in the world that makes vodka entirely from milk products.
