About The Macallan Whiskey

The Macallan is one of the world’s premium whiskey brands operating in Scotland. Alexander Reid found the distillery near the river spy in North East of Scotland. It is one of the world’s leading single malt whiskey brands.

The History behind The MacallanWhiskey

Alexander Reid, who found The Macallan distillery, gave the area’s original name “Magellan” to his company. Being a Barley farmer, he witnessed the whiskey-making culture of the farmers in the Spey side farms during the winter months using the surplus Barley produced for centuries. In 1700, he built the distillery with small copper stills to produce rich and flavorful spirits.

They chose the finest spirits to make the best single malt whiskey by maturing it in oak casks. Each spirit has 70% alcohol by volume and gets distinct aromas and flavors based on the casks. In addition, the colorless spirits get natural color from the woods of the casks made from oak trees in Spain, which gives plenty of natural flavor to the single malt whiskies.

The casks are carefully monitored for decades and released after proper maturation. It is the only Scotch distillery that has its own master of wood, Stuart Macpherson, who carefully dries shapes and seasons the oak casks with oloroso Sherry to contribute to the richness of the final product.
