About Buchanan’s Whiskey

James Buchanan’s is one of the leading premium luxury Whiskey brands in the world. He created it in the 19th century, and in 20 short years, it became one of the big five producers of Whiskey in the world. Buchanan’s is now owned and operated by a British multinational company, Diageo.

The History behind Buchanan’s Whiskey

Buchanan’s Whiskey is named after the company’s founder, James Buchanan, who was a Whiskey entrepreneur. Canadian James Buchanan’s began his Whiskey career in 1879 by being an agent for the blending company Charles McKinley and co. He was inspired to create a blended Whiskey that was more suitable to the English palate.

He came up with a uniquely smooth blend of Whiskey, which everybody can share and enjoy. He launched the company in 1884 in Scotland and then distributed it to London and Latin America.

Buchanan’s blend became popular because of its black and white bottle. The black bottle with the white label soon became to be known as black and white. The logo of the brand, the red lion crest, depicts its Scotland Heritage, but it is widely popular around the globe.

Buchanan’s first released its finest old liquor in 1926, which was inspired by soldiers’ canteen from World War 1. The soldiers shared their water bottles from their canteen, which created a great friendship between them. The brand’s old liquor bottle represents this first friendship where everybody can share the Whiskey bottle.

Each bottle has a Latin engraving on the back which says “HincClarior Spiritus.” This means, Hence the brighter spirit. The motto of the brand is to lift the spirits of people by enjoying their finest liquor.
